Here is what Pashinyan says about war and peace in a conversation with the … Serb ultra-nationalist smuggler and gun dealer Marco. Pages 20 and 21

Գիտե՞ս ինչ Մարկո, ես քեզ հասկանում եմ, լաւ եմ հասկանում, շատ լաւ հսասկանում եմ նաեւ իմ այն հարենակիցներին, որոնց կարգախոսը համընկնում է սերբականի հետ. Մահ կամ ազատություն: Հավատա, որ հարգումեմ այդ կարգախոսը, սիրու եմ այն: … Then he adds.

Հասկանու՞մ ես, կռվելն ինքը նպատակ չէ, խաղաղությոնը՛ նույնպես: Հաղթում է նա, ով կռվելու ժամանակը կարողանում է տարբերել հաշտվելու ժամանակից, եւ կռվելու ժամանակի մեջ կռվում է, հաշտվելու ժամանակի մէջ’ հաշտվում:

“You know Marco, I understand you, I understand you well, I also understand very well my compatriots, whose slogan coincides to that of Serbian. “Death or freedom”. Believe me, I respect that slogan, I love it”. Then he adds.

“Do you understand? combat is not an end in itself, and conciliation also. The winner will be the one, who can differentiate the combat time from the conciliation time, and during combat time he fights, and during conciliation time he reconciles”.

Here is how Pashinyan sees the revolution. Page 190

Հեղափոխության հաղթանակը պէտք է պսակվի ժողովուրդի ինքնաիշխանությամբ, երբ ժողովուրդն ազատ է իշխանություն ձեւավորել եւ ազատվել իր ձեւավորած իշխանությունից, երբ ժողովուրդը, քաղաքացին, ազատ է արտահայտել իր մտածածը, ազատ է արտահայտել իր բողոքն ու գոհունակությոնը: Եւ երբ ինքնիշխան է ժողովուրդը, իսկական հեղափոխականը պէտք է պատրաստ լինի նոր հեղափոխությունների. չլինի՞ թեժողովրդի ինքիշխանությանը, ազատությանը, որեւէ բան է սպառնում:

The victory of revolution must be crowned by people’s self-governance,   when the people are free to form governance,   and get rid of the governance they formed,   when people, the citizen, is free to express their thoughts, are free to express their protest and satisfaction, and when people are self-governed, the real revolutionary must be ready for new revolutions, just in case the people’s self-governance and freedom is threatened.  

Here is in part how Pashinyan sees the future of Armenia … through the window of an imaginary … train ride … in Europe. Pages 64 and 65.

Գնացքի պատուհանից նայելը եւ մտորումների գիրկը ընկնելը չափազանց հաճելի զբաղմունք դուրս եկաւ: Իմ կուպեի պատուհանից, սակայն, չէի ուզում տեսնել Շվեյցարյան կամ Գերմանյան ու չէի տեսնում: Գնացքի պատուհանից նայելով՛ փնտրում էի ապագայի Հայաստանը, ուրվագծում էի ապագայի Հայաստանը, տեսնում էի ապագագայի Հայաստանը, հպարտությամբ ճառագող մարդիկ, ազատ երիտասարդություն, հարգված իշխանություններ, վստահություն ապագայի նկատմամբ, Հայրենիքի լիաթոք զգացողություն, օրենքի անսակարկելիություն, ազատություն, որ զգում ես կրծքիդ տակ: …

Այս ամենքը տեսնում էի գնացքի պատուհանից. այդ ամենի գոյության մասին էր վկայում ամեն տուն, ամեն հայացք, ամեն ծառ, ամեն մայրուղի, ամեն կամուրջ, ամեն կայարան: …

Նայում էի գնացքի պատուհանից, եւ տեսնում էի այդ ամենի Հայաստանի տարբերակը, այն ինձ համար իրական էր, շոշափելի, մոտակա… Բայց մոտակա չի նշանակում սկուտեղի վրայ մատուցված: Ոչ ոք սկուտեղի վրայ մեզ չի մատուցի այն երկիրը, որում երազում ենք ապրել: Մենք պէտք է կերտենք մեր Ազատ Հայրենիքը, մենք պէտք է կերտենք մեր Հայրենիքին ապագան: …

“Looking through the window of the train, and reminiscing, turned out to be very pleasant.  But from the window of my cabin, I did not want to see Switzerland or Germany and was not seeing them.

Looking through the train window I was imagining Armenia and its future. People beaming with pride, free youth, respected authorities, trust towards the future, a true sense of belonging to the Fatherland, respect to rule of law, freedom, that you feel it under your chest”. 

“I was seeing all this through the train window, every house, every sight, every tree, every highway, every bridge, every station was a testament to it”.

I was looking through the train window, and I was seeing the Armenian version of it, and that for me was real, tangible, coming soon… But coming soon does not mean presenting to us on a tray. Nobody will present us with the country that we are dreaming about on a tray. We must create our Free Armenia, we will create our Fatherland’s future”. And he asks.

Իսկ ովքե՞ր են «Մենք»-ը: Դու ես, ես եմ, նա է: Իսկ ինչո՞ւ պէտ ք է դու քեզ պատասխանատու զգաս ապագայի առաջ: Որովհետեւ Հայաստանի լինելությունը կախված է մէկ մարդուց, եւ այդ մէկ մարդը դու ես, եւ այդ մէկ մարդը դու ես, եւ այդ մէկ մարդը դու ես…

And who is the “We”  You are, I am, he is and why do you have to feel responsible for the future?. Because the existence of Armenia depends on one man, and that one man is you, and that one man is you, and that one man is you.

Pashinyan ends the book on his “return” to the protest gathering in Yerevan’s Freedom Square and declares.

Հայաստանի Հանրապետության քաղաքացի. Հայաստանի ապագան կախված է մեկ մարդուց, եւ այդ մէկ մարդը դո՛ւ ես: Ապա եւ՛ «Կեցցե՛ Ազատությունը, Կեցցե՛ Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը, կեցցեն մեր երեխաները, որ ապրելու են Ազատ եւ Երջանիկ Հայաստանում»:

Citizen of the Republic of Armenia. Armenia’s future depends on one person, and that person is you. Long Live Freedom, Long Live Republic of Armenia, long live our children, who will live in Free and Happy Armenia”.

In conclusion, let me say again that the above quote was written and “declared” when Pashinyan “returned” to Armenia from the improbable and imaginary trip “From the Other Side of the Country” in 2008!!. But in realityշ Pashinyan re-declared the same words in Freedom Square in 2018. He had earned the right to say it, after a long, 10-year-long, hard-fought struggle.

(After about one and half years in hiding, and about one year and ten months in jail, next 7 years Pashinyan became like a “thorn on the side” of the “strongman” President/Prime Minister,  Serj Sargsyan, and his corrupt oligarchic administration.

For 7 years he worked hard «Բանիւ եւ գործով» (with words and deeds) as a journalist, activist, and then as a Member of Parliament (MP). He led the peaceful “Velvet Revolution” and in April 2018 toppled the “strongman” Serj Sargsyan and his corrupt and oligarchic regime, and in a way set the dawn of a new Ժողովրդավառ Հայաստանի Հանրապետնեան).

This was an unprecedented peaceful victory for Freedom and Democracy “Ժողովրդավառություն”. A victory was achieved with the participation of the people of Armenia, men, women, young generation, old generation, etc.  THANK YOU ALL.
